Van Gogh at Night
For the New York Botanical Garden's "Van Gogh's Flowers"
Van Gogh Through Movement/ Starry Nights

Choreography
4 dancers, 15 minute sets on a 12x16 stage, with movement vocabulary inspired by:
-
brushstrokes: long swirling spirals contrasting with short brisk movements
-
cypress trees swaying in the wind
-
the idea of reflection (for stars reflected in the Rhone.)
-
general movement aesthetic as seen here.
Music
Classical and jazz selections inspired by night, stars, the color blue --
or contemporaries of Van Gogh like Debussy , Faure and Satie.

Costumes
Simple costumes that pop against the background of green patinated statues -- featuring yellow, blue, and purple and white.
